Frequently Asked Questions
College Admissions Counseling Questions
How Much Time is Required to Work with a College Admissions Counselor?
The time commitment varies based on individual needs, but we typically recommend regular sessions to ensure comprehensive support throughout the admissions process. This may begin as early as the 8th grade. Our underclassman students usually meet once per month with their admissions counselor, while our seniors may meet multiple times per week. They may also schedule appointments with their Ivy League Student Mentor.
What is Top College Coach's success rate?
Over the past five years, all of our regular college admissions package students have been accepted to at least one of their top five college choices. During that same time our students have averaged more than $500,000 each in merit scholarship offers. Our students have gained admission to Yale, Penn, Brown, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Davidson, Bowdoin, Emory, and many others.
What College Admissions Counselor Services do you Offer?
We offer personalized college admissions counseling services, including test preparation, academic profile building, extracurricular and community involvement, mentoring from current Ivy League students, application crafting, essay coaching, interview preparation, and admissions strategies.
What is an Ivy League Student Mentor at Top College Coach?
At Top College Coach, we pair each of our students with an Ivy League Student Mentor. This mentor has been through the admissions process with us recently, went through the interview process, and viewed their admissions file after enrolling. They are an invaluable resource for our students. You can discover more about our Ivy League Student Mentors in your Free Coaching Session.
What do College Admissions Counselors Cost? Is it Worth the Investment?
Using a college admissions counselor is an investment. Is it worth it?
In 2023, US News published an article "How Much Is an Ivy League Degree Worth?" It found that a non-Ivy graduate made an early-career average of $58,643, while an Ivy League graduate made an early-career average of $86,025 - nearly 50% more. By mid-career, that difference grows, surpassing 60% more.
While no college admissions counselor can guarantee admission at any school for your student, you can look at their track records and ask to speak to their references. You should also always ask for an online meeting with the counselor your student would work with. Far to often, students sign on with a big-name company, only to get paired with a newly-hired trainee. Your student's future is too valuable to gamble with. Make sure that the exact counselor your student works with has a proven track record.
The national average for a college admissions counselor ranges between $5,000 and $35,000, depending on the depth of services needed, the student, and the family's budget. Believe it or not, some counselors charge more than $1.5 million for unlimited plans.
Top College Coach is very selective about the students that we work with, and we keep our team small. As such, your student will never work with a newly-trained counselor, and our prices do not approach those of large companies. We tailor each package to the specific needs of each student, and our prices are usually less than half of those of large companies with hundreds of clients. We also offer convenient payment plans for our families.
